Simon Jayes – Camera Operator & Co-Founder, Cine-COMM Inc.
Simon Jayes has worked as a camera operator for nearly 30 years, starting in the UK before moving to Los Angeles in 1990 to introduce the TechnoCrane to the U.S. He later transitioned to full-time operating and added Steadicam to his repertoire.
Working with TechnoCranes required intercom systems, and Simon became familiar with nearly every system available. That expertise led to a turning point on set when he discovered Riedel Bolero:
“When I first used Bolero, I realized it was the answer to my prayers… I’d been wearing two intercoms, a walkie-talkie earpiece, and a sound headset. To have all that—and more—in one device was a game-changer for filmmaking efficiency.”
This discovery inspired Simon to co-found Cine-COMM Inc. with Eduardo Eguia to bring Bolero to other filmmakers.
His credits include The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984, True Blood, and Quantum of Solace. He is a three-time nominee for the SOC Camera Operator of the Year and serves on the SOC’s Technical and Educational Committees.
