Riedel Bolero MASTER CLASS 2 – DPs and Operators (from 6-7:30)
On-Set Communication: From Camera to Crew
Great cinematography depends on collaboration. When the DP, camera operators, focus pullers, and department heads can communicate naturally and instantly, the entire set can move with greater awareness and coordination.
In this masterclass, Craig Kief, ASC takes you inside his approach to on-set communication and the role Riedel Bolero wireless intercom plays in keeping his camera team connected across television, commercial, studio, and location work.
Designed specifically for directors of photography and camera operators, this session explores how communication technology can support, rather than get in the way of, the creative process. Craig will share his real-world experience replacing walkie-talkies and legacy wireless systems with a full-duplex intercom workflow that gives his team immediate access to the conversations and departments they need.
Topics will include:
- Building a communication workflow around the camera team
- Keeping DPs, camera operators, focus pullers, and department heads connected
- Full-duplex communication for more natural conversations on set
- Using multiple party lines to manage different production needs
- Wireless and Bluetooth options for greater freedom around the camera
- Reducing cables, clutter, and distractions for mobile camera crews
- Maintaining communication during moving shots and remote/location work
- Battery-powered Bolero antenna setups for highly mobile productions
- Lessons learned from putting wireless intercom to work on real sets
See how Craig Kief, ASC uses communication as another tool in the cinematographer’s kit - helping the camera team stay connected while staying focused on the shot.
Please arrive early - 5:00pm - 6:00pm - we will be starting on time.
